Today’s art world is like no other before it. It’s a completely different creature, one that cannot be defined by conventional artistic characterization. Many of the traditional muses, such as War & Peace, Love & Loss, Victory & Defeat, continue to inspire this era’s art, but the imagination of today’s artists is much harder to categorize.
It’s been said that one’s imagination is as limitled as their resources. Well, with the internet at their disposal, the artists of now virtually have a bottomless well of ammunition to fuel their creative arsenals. Though, having said that, these same artists all believe that the best inspiration is that which is gained through experiencing life. My belief is that the artists who manage to capitalize on both concepts are a part of what I refer to as the “Modern Day Art Movement”.
This movement is heavily focused on breaking barriers, breaking bread, and breaking ground. Today’s artists are accomplishing this by utilizing some of the greatest networking tools ever created (Face Book, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter, etc.), self promotion, maintaining consistent exposure, and having the versatility and adaptability of a chameleon. Not to mention, enough talent to knockdown a wall, but the wherewithal to treat it as a canvas.
Entering every door that opens before them, today’s artists aren’t waiting for their talent to be recognized, they’re demanding your consideration. Every color is provocative, every angle is suggestive, and perception is the paternal father of a bastard child named imagination. And though the days when artists romantically severed their appendages are gone, today’s artists may find that an obscure yet morbid YouTube find could stir just as much inspiration.
Okay, let me make one thing clear. Art is always evolving. Even as you read this article, art is evolving into some new form of expression. Though, we are presently seeing art in a way that’s never been seen before. The modern day artist has taken what we know about art and turned it into something we might never consider to be art. That is why this movement is so important. Because the only thing better than sex to an artist, is changing the way another human being looks at something, and putting an entirely different spin on it.
The one constant that holds true to art, is that art is subjective. Beauty, as well as what can be considered art, is in the eye of the beholder. The Modern day artists have taken this concept and ran completely out of sight with it. Everyday artist across the globe are pushing the boundaries of what art is, and challenging you to change your perception. Is art “life”, is art “death”, or is art the “journey” that is traveled in between life and death.
The reason I chose to do a written piece on art, was primarily based on one of STRIVE’s major focuses: spreading the word. A huge portion of what we aim to do here at Whatsyourstrive.com is to promote the voice of these unknown artists. That is OUR Modern Day Art Movement; breaking barriers, breaking bread, and breaking ground. Again let me reemphasize that the word “artist” is subjective. Art can be any number of things, from dancers to painters, from singers to actors; no matter what the art form is, we intend to help the little guys achieve big dreams. As we go out into the world, we plan to touch base on all that can be considered entertainment and therefore considered art. We’ve made it our mission to bring what’s done in the dark to light for all to see.
